Binance has scored a major legal victory after the federal court in the Southern District of New York decided to dismiss all claims brought against it under the Anti-Terrorism Act (ATA).
The lawsuit was filed by 535 plaintiffs who accused the world’s largest digital currency trading platform of providing material support for 64 terrorist attacks.
However, a 62-page ruling issued by Judge Ginette Vargas concluded that the plaintiffs had failed to prove their basic allegations against the platform and its former CEO, CZ.
she said Eleanor Hughes, general counsel of Binance, said the decision completely exonerates all false accusations, stressing that the court clearly rejected claims that the platform aided terrorists.
Although the case was dismissed and the plaintiffs had 60 days to file an amended complaint, Binance expressed its belief that any amendments would not address the fundamental flaws identified by the court.
In another development, 11 Democratic U.S. senators, led by Richard Blumenthal, called on the Justice and Treasury departments to investigate Binance for allegedly facilitating $1.7 billion worth of transactions linked to Iranian entities.
The platform rejected the accusations, noting that it employs more than 1,500 compliance experts to bolster anti-financial crime programs.
