i warned The company “MARISKS” specializes in managing maritime risks arising from fraud targeting stranded cargo ships near the Strait of Hormuz, in which unidentified individuals impersonated Iranian entities and demanded payment of transit fees in digital currencies.
According to the warning, ship owners have received messages requesting the transfer of Bitcoin or USDT amounts in exchange for voyage insurance, which are false claims and have nothing to do with official authorities.
These operations exploited tensions in the region and restrictions on navigation activities to extort companies.
This comes amid a complex situation unfolding in the strait, one of the world’s most important energy corridors, where recent tensions have disrupted navigation of hundreds of ships, detained thousands of sailors and left transit conditions unclear.
Other reports also suggest that there are actual arrangements in place that require entities linked to Iran’s Revolutionary Guards to coordinate the payment of transit fees, in some cases using digital currency, making it more difficult to distinguish official procedures from fraud.
This reality creates a fertile environment for scams to spread, using pressure and confusion to force victims into making quick decisions without adequate verification.
