Kaspersky is warning iPhone users about a wave of fake apps designed to steal digital currencies on the App Store after discovering 26 apps impersonating well-known wallets.
The company explained that the apps imitated well-known wallets such as “MetaMask”, “Trust Wallet” and “Coinbase” in name and design in order to deceive users.
But once opened, it redirects victims to a fake phishing page requesting the download of another app, which is actually a malicious version capable of stealing digital currency.
The campaign, which has been active since late 2025, relies on advanced methods, including hiding apps behind simple functions like games or calculators to make them appear normal, and then leveraging Apple’s tools to distribute the apps outside the store, convincing users to install developer files, allowing the malware to be installed undetected.
Once installed, the fake app mimics a real wallet and targets both hot and cold wallets with the goal of accessing private keys and withdrawing funds.
Kaspersky confirmed that these attacks are not limited to specific regions, although they are more common in certain markets, and warned that any user who is not aware of these methods may be at risk.
The warnings coincide with the detection of another scam linked to fake Ledger devices designed to steal wallet data, reflecting a clear escalation in attacks targeting digital currency users.
