Months after last outage, Sui network experiences another outage: Details

Sui Network is now fully operational after an outage that lasted about six hours following a series of latest technical issues faced by the network in recent months.

Sui explained that the cause of the outage was due to a software flaw related to the new version 1.72, specifically in the mechanism for calculating Gas fees (Gas Charging Logic), which caused the mainnet to stop processing transactions.

The development team confirmed via X Platform that the event has returned to the network and said a detailed report on the incident will be released in the coming days. During the outage, all trading is temporarily suspended until the necessary fixes are deployed.

According to the network’s official status page, the outage lasted 5 hours and 55 minutes, and although the network is back up and running, some validators are still experiencing degraded performance.

This is not the first time Sui has faced such problems. The network suffered an outage of more than 6 hours in January last year, and a similar incident occurred in November 2024 due to a flaw in the transaction scheduling system that failed multiple auditors and caused the entire network to stop.

At the market level, the price of SUI coin temporarily fell from $0.95 to $0.89 during the outage before recovering and stabilizing around $0.925.

Although the currency is up about 1.5% in the past 24 hours, it is still down about 17% in the past week due to overall weakness in the digital currency market.

In May, SUI prices recorded strong gains near $1.40, supported by the staking process of more than 108 million SUI tokens and optimism about the launch of SUI futures contracts through CME and the network’s partnership with African payments company “Paga”.
