Helius CEO and co-founder Mr. Mert Mumtaz has launched a scathing attack on the Telegram app, calling on the digital currency community and Web 3 developers to fundamentally reconsider their reliance on the platform as it is no longer able to meet privacy and security requirements within the industry.

Mumtaz’s statement comes after an incident involving prominent Ethereum engineer Dominic Clemente, when his Telegram account was hacked and the support system subsequently deleted the entire account with no way to recover data or conversations, sparking a wave of anger within developer circles.
Mumtaz, known for his strong support of blockchain privacy concepts, especially the Zcash project, believes Telegram is stuck in a “structural impasse” that makes it unsuitable for the sensitive infrastructure of Web 3 projects, especially given the lack of full end-to-end encryption (E2EE) by default in regular conversations.
He pointed out that the “Signal” application is significantly better than Telegram in terms of privacy and security, while tools such as “Slack” are still more efficient and reliable in managing work teams and internal coordination of major technology projects.
Mumtaz believes that the problem is not limited to technical aspects, but also extends to support mechanisms and account protection, as he believes that effective services within Telegram appear to be provided for large partners and large companies, while independent developers face the risk of complete loss of accounts and data in the event of a hacker or phishing attack.
He added that many developers have lost years of work, professional relationships and communication channels due to automated removal systems and poor security responses within applications.
The criticisms come amid Mumtaz’s growing influence in the digital currency community, particularly his prominent role in bridging the Solana network’s scalability and privacy concepts related to digital assets.
His comments sparked widespread discussion within the Web 3 community about the need to move sensitive project infrastructure to more secure applications, whether through “Signal” or through decentralized messaging applications that rely on modern encryption.
Although Telegram founder Pavel Durov continues to promote the TON ecosystem and promote the application as the main platform in the blockchain world, a growing number of developers and projects in the Solana and Zcash ecosystems now view Telegram as a potential security weakness rather than a reliable tool for work and professional communication.
