President Donald Trump used his final address to Congress on Tuesday to mix policy assertions, political attacks and campaign messages. Tariffs, immigration, foreign policy on Iran and the ethics of Congress emerged as top topics.
Combine policy statements with emotional guest stories. He directly attacked Democrats and defended the tariff schedule after a recent Supreme Court setback.
Trump’s tariffs will continue despite Supreme Court setback
The speech focused on the issue of Trump’s attempt to dismiss the legal defeat on the tariffs as a temporary setback, calling the court’s decision “unfortunate.”
The president also said existing trade agreements would remain in place, and vowed to use “alternative laws” to keep tariffs at the center of US policy.

In particular, the President of the United States began by saying: Our nation is back: bigger, better, richer and stronger than ever, and he maintained that tone for almost the entire speech.
This follows his long policy approach of tying consumer prices, markets and employment directly to the president’s leadership.
Zero tolerance to immigration
Immigration and crime dominated the punchiest moments of the speech. Trump highlighted border enforcement, deportations and new proposals.
Most importantly, Trump urged the enactment of “Delilah’s Law” to prevent states from issuing commercial driver’s licenses to undocumented immigrants.
He also renewed calls to end sanctuary city policies and tighten voting rules, mixing immigration enforcement with election security rhetoric.

At the same time, Trump used the chamber as a direct political platform, repeatedly asking lawmakers to support certain positions and then criticizing those who did not.
