Washington was caught in a political firestorm on Friday after the US Supreme Court struck down global tariffs imposed by President Donald Trump.
The ruling sparked a strong partisan backlash and revealed a growing divide over trade, executive power and the country’s economic future.

The Democrats declared victory
Senate Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer framed the decision as a victory for consumers.
“This is a victory for the wallet of every American consumer. Trump’s chaotic and illegal tax has made life more expensive and our economy more turbulent.”
He added: :
“Trump’s illegal tax collapsed – he tried to rule by decree and force families into the law. Enough chaos. It’s a trade war.”

“In defense of our republic, the Supreme Court canceled the use of emergency powers to enact taxes. This decision will also prevent a future president like AOC from using emergency powers to impose socialism.” He said.

“America’s outrageous court decision limits our fight against unfair trade that has devastated American workers for decades. These tariffs protect jobs, revive manufacturing, and force crooks like China to pay,” he noted.
Moreno warned that “the globalists win” under the ruling and called on Republicans to legalize the tariffs through reconciliation legislation.
Trump is pushing back
