New Unlocks: Ripple Unlocks 1 Billion XRP and Prepares to Re-Lock

According to Whale Alert data, Ripple will unlock 1 billion XRP coins every month as planned starting in 2026, releasing 1 billion XRP coins in three batches.

The company previously held about 60% of the total supply of XRP, and with no clear rules at the time, potential monthly sales were unknown.

Later, Ripple voluntarily locked 55 billion XRP in an escrow contract on the XRP Ledger network, which automatically opens on the first day of every month.

David Schwartz, the company’s technical director, explained that this mechanism actually limits the company’s ability to sell the currency directly.

Data shows that the opening in January 2026 was implemented smoothly and on time.

Ripple followed a controversial pattern in mid-2025, causing chaos within society through internal movements and re-locking before the opening process occurred, before reverting to its usual pattern.

The post-conquest point remains one of the most misunderstood aspects. Historically, Ripple has not used the entire $1 billion.

You would typically sell a portion to provide liquidity to ODL clients or fund operations, and then re-lock the remainder into a new custody contract that opens at a future date.

For example, if 1 billion is unlocked and the company only uses 200 million, the remaining 800 million are re-locked.

Whale alert data is expected to show several relock transactions in the coming hours and days.
