MetaMask Mastercard becomes available in the United States with chain rewards, including in New York

Meta Mask has announced a partnership with MasterCard to launch a new payment card program in the US that links spending to chain rewards. The launch included a virtual card that users can use immediately and a metallic MetaMask card available for pre-order.

The availability of the card was also included for New York residents, which is important given the state’s tougher stance on cryptocurrency financial products.

Meta Mask said the metal card offers 3% cash back on the first $10,000 in spending, zero foreign transaction fees, and additional benefits tied to a new rewards program.

US residents can now earn chain-wide points through MasterCard

Users can redeem these points for ecosystem benefits such as discounts, token allocation, and early access opportunities.

Unlike older cryptocurrency card models that often rely on holding funds on an exchange, MetaMask offers this card as an extension of the self-custodial wallet experience. Users manage assets via MetaMask, while the card allows them to pay through MasterCard’s business network.

The launch highlighted how Wallet providers now compete directly in the payments sector. Cryptocurrency products used rewards to attract users into their ecosystems rather than pushing them towards centralized platforms.

At the same time, the model remains dependent on intermediaries. Users must also consider practical obstacles: converting cryptocurrencies into cash at payment points can create tax events, and fees, limits, eligible tokens and network support can impact the real value of “cash back” in daily use.

The metamask race in cards has emerged as major payment networks and fintech partners race to make stablecoins and on-chain balances spendable at major merchants.
