Visa has announced a new pilot program that allows creators and freelancers to receive payments directly in the USDC stablecoin as part of its efforts to accelerate cross-border payments.
Through Visa Direct, the program allows businesses to pay in traditional currencies, while recipients choose to receive payments in USDC, providing faster and cheaper access to funds, especially in areas with limited banking systems.
Visa explains that participants will need compatible wallets and know-your-customer (KYC) procedures.
The program will launch with select partners in the second half of 2026 and will only be supported by USDC at the beginning.
The move is part of Visa’s strategy to expand the use of stable currencies, with the company’s cryptocurrency transaction traffic exceeding $140 billion and its digital card spending growing fourfold in the past year.
