Jack Dorsey recalled one of the most famous ideas from the birth of Bitcoin after hinting at the return of “Bitcoin faucets,” a historical tool that offered the digital currency to early users for free.
So far, no clear details have been revealed about the new initiatives Block is working on, but this step strongly signals a return to the original spirit that fueled the spread of Bitcoin.
The idea of a “faucet” dates back to 2010, when Bitcoin was still a limited technology project.
Then the famous developer “Gavin Andresen” launched a simple website that allowed anyone to get 5 Bitcoins for free by solving the “CAPTCHA” test, with the goal of encouraging users to try the system.
At the time, these coins had little value, but today 5 Bitcoins are worth hundreds of thousands of dollars.
“Andresen” funded the project with his own funds, distributing over 1,100 Bitcoins, and the site continued for a while before being discontinued as prices increased and market interest increased.
Although the new version is not expected to offer the same free amount, the reintroduction of the idea carries a lot of symbolic weight, reflecting an attempt to recall the approach adopted in the early days and enhance the opportunities for new users to enter the world of digital currencies.
