Canadian star Drake has suffered a new loss in the digital currency world after betting on the outcome of the Super Bowl, adding a new chapter to his string of unsuccessful bets over the years.
The Super Bowl takes place on February 8th at Levi’s Stadium, bringing together the Seattle Seahawks and New England Patriots to become the most attractive sports betting event in the United States.
Drake revealed on his Instagram account that he used $1 million in Bitcoin to bet on the New England Patriots winning.
At odds of 2.95, he could have made a profit of about $2 million from Bitcoin, but the result was exactly the opposite, and “Seattle” won 29-13.
This loss is not the first.
In 2022, “Drake” lost over $600,000 in Bitcoin after betting on Arsenal’s match against Leeds United and the victory of Barcelona’s El Clasico match against Real Madrid, which ended in a defeat for the Catalan club.
In early 2024, he bet about $700,000 in Bitcoin on UFC fighter Sean Strickland to win, but lost the bet after a judge issued a split decision in favor of Dracus Du Plessis.
Subsequently, he also placed a high bet on the Canadian national football team to defeat Argentina with $300,000 worth of Bitcoin, with odds of nearly 10 times, but the Argentine national team led by Messi won 2-0, adding a new loss to the singer’s record.
The long string of losing bets gave rise to what’s known online as the “Drake Curse,” a popular joke that suggests teams or players that Drake publicly supports often end up losing.
