Kosmos is considering a radical redesign of the ATOM coin amid price struggles

Cosmos Labs has launched an urgent search for external economists to redesign ATOM in view of the price difficulties that the digital currency is facing.

The company said that the Cosmos SDK has become a popular framework for launching blockchain networks, including projects associated with major companies and government initiatives that are often cited as evidence of interest by Fortune 500 companies.

Why does Cosmos want to redesign ATOM?

However, because the software is open source, these users can publish independent, sovereign chains without paying fees or royalties to Cosmos Hub.

As a result, these business developers use the underlying network technology without having to own or own it. Interaction with ATOM.

The blockchain development company wants to change this reality to promote a new “revenue-driven” model. This approach aims to monetize usage both on and off the network.

The Cosmos team explained that the goal of this research effort is not to design a new token model from the ground up, but rather to provide research and design support for a revenue-driven model that reconciles ATOM’s various potential revenue sources with updates to ATOM’s supply dynamics and inflation schedule. He noted that the benefit of ATOM will come at the end of these fees, either through ATOM buybacks, ATOM storage awards, other mechanisms, or a combination of these, according to What was stated in the statement.

The initiative also signals a strategic shift in… Cosmos Ecosystem.

Cosmos Labs admitted that Interchain Security, the shared security framework that was promoted as a key driver of ATOM’s value, “failed to achieve market fit.”

The team explained that Interchain Security is in the process of being permanently disabled, and that the economic structure of the flame remains relatively disconnected from the wider activity in the Cosmos system. He emphasized that the system today lacks a complete fee model, with the exception of fees for network operations.

These redesign efforts point to economic models closer to enterprise software conventions, including consumption-based fees tied to usage rather than security rent.

However, the implementation of any proposal would face significant political restrictions, as it would have to be approved by the DAO community of the Cosmos Hub, which is historically known for its opposition to actions considered central.

Cosmos Laboratories pointed to a previous proposal for a cut Inflation That was by a narrow margin of 3%. She explained that this decision led to a sudden withdrawal of the seized assets, which showed how sensitive the symbolic economy is in society.

After this, the company said that each successful proposal identifies potential revenue paths, analyzes the supply constraints, and provides practical guidance aligned with the interests of stakeholders. Requests for proposals close on January 15th.

At the same time, the move came as ATOM fell by about 76% this year to reach a five-year low of about $2.1.

These price performances reflect significant pressure in the ecosystem, even as the Cosmos software stack gains more popularity among blockchain developers and enterprise experimental projects.
